Couples Therapy

Holistic Therapy

We take a holistic approach to couples therapy right from the initial assessment. We ask that you come with an open mind so we can help you both explore yourselves individually and as a couple. We have a “no secrets policy” in our couples therapy. Our therapists are there for the good of the relationship and to create an environment of safety and trust. This cannot be done if one partner feels that the therapist is keeping the secret’s of the other and allying against them.  Our therapists will provide the tools and space to help you explore how to communicate difficult topics with each other. During the initial assessment/ appointment we will take the time to discuss our “no secrets policy” and answer any questions you may have.

Salam Therapy prides itself in creating a safe and judgement free space for all faiths, spirituality, ethnicities and identities. We take a client centered approach and will infuse those things most important to you during therapy (eg. Religion).

What to expect

The first step is to book a 15 minute phone consultation with us to we can better understand what you are looking for, verify insurance/ self-pay rates and book our assessment/ initial appointment. You each will be provided with your individual client portal where you will complete detailed intake paperwork, sign consent paperwork and provide demographic and payment information. If you choose to use insurance, we will verify your benefits again and will let you know if there are any issues.

Prior to the appointment, the therapist will review the intake paperwork. The first appointment is approximately 60 minutes long. The therapist will ask if you have any questions about the paperwork and will then highlight our confidentiality and cancellation policies, methods of future communication and in the case of couples of counselling will go over the “no secrets policy.” Then the therapist will begin the session by asking questions and taking a comprehensive history of the issues. By the end of the session the therapist will reiterate what was discussed and discuss frequency. Although, it will be during the next session that the therapist will have had time to review sessions notes and develop a treatment plan.

Insurance

Most insurances will cover what is referred to as “marriage or couples counselling.” We would be happy to discuss the details during our initial consultation. If you have an insurance carrier that we are not in-network with, we will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance if you have out of network benefits to get reimbursed directly.
