Frequently Asked Questions

How much does therapy cost?

Accepted: major insurances, outofnetwork benefits, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Selfpay rates are listed on our Insurance Page

What if I haven’t met my deductible yet?

You’ll pay the session fee outofpocket until your deductible is satisfied.

How do out‑of‑network benefits work?

We charge the full session fee at the time of service. You receive a detailed superbill for insurance submission. Check the Insurance Page for additional details.

Can I pay out‑of‑pocket even if you’re in‑network?

Yes. Sign an Insurance OptOut Form before your first session.

If you later decide to use insurance, simply sign an OptIn Form.

How can I reach you outside of scheduled sessions?
  • Use the secure messaging feature in your client portal for non‑urgent questions.

  • Emergency: Dial 911 or visit mentalhealth.gov for immediate resources.

What’s your cancellation policy?
  • ≥ 24 hours notice: No charge; we can offer the slot to another client.

  • < 24 hours notice: Charged at the standard session rate.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes—all information is confidential except when:

  • There is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.

  • Required by a court subpoena (e.g., suspected child, elder, or dependent abuse).

Is therapy just “talking”?

No. Our sessions are goaloriented and actionfocused. We:

  • Listen actively.

  • Provide guided feedback.

  • Set measurable milestones together.

Do I really need therapy? I can handle things on my own.

Friends and family are great supports, but a licensed therapist offers:

  • Confidential space for topics you may not want to share elsewhere.

  • Evidence‑based tools to break unhelpful patterns and prevent relapse.

  • Long‑term skill building for stress, anxiety, relationships, and more.

What happens in the first session?
  • We create a safe environment, conduct a comprehensive intake, and discuss your goals.

  • You’ll receive a brief overview of policies and have a chance to ask any questions.

How will I know when therapy is finished?

Therapy length varies:

  • Most find 6–12 months of regular work optimal.

  • Progress is reviewed regularly so you can decide together when you’ve reached your objectives.

How often should I schedule sessions?

Your therapist will recommend a frequency after the intake, based on:

  • Symptom acuity, diagnosis, therapeutic modality, and personal preference.
